Honor Our Flag
It's wonderful to see Old Glory flown in so many places. However, some flags are getting worn and need to be replaced. The American flag should always be displayed with pride and respect. The United States Flag Code, adopted in 1923, prescribes standards when displaying our colors:
A few of these include:
*Never let the flag touch the floor or ground; it should be received by waiting hands when lowered.
*The flag should be cleaned and mended when necessary.
*The flag should not be used as drapery, a costume or uniform.
*The flag should not be embroidered, printed or paint on other objects.
*To store the flag, fold neatly and ceremoniously.
When displaying the flag:
*Always display the flag with the blue union field up.
*The flag is always positioned at its own right - to the right of the speaker or staging area and to the left of the audience.
*The flag should be at the center and highest point when displayed with other flags.
*Outdoors, when displaying the flag against a wall or window, horizontally or vertically, the flag's union (stars) should be at the top, to the flag's own right, and to the observer's left.
*Ordinarily, the flag is displayed only between sunrise and sunset. It should be illuminated if displayed at night.
*Dispose of a worn flag by burning in a dignified manner.
We need not wait for a patriotic holiday ~ Fly your flag with pride every day.
